What exactly is lithium stearate? lithium stearate (C17H35COOLi) is a lithium-stearic acid salt and one of the most popular metal soaps. This powder, which is nearly insoluble in water or alcohol but has a melting point at 220°C, can be used to make greases and other waxes. It is stable up to 150 degrees Celsius and can still be lubricated down to -20 degrees Celsius. This was the biggest quantitative application of lithium, before the invention of lithium-ion cells.
For pencils, small quantities of lithium stearate can be used. Because it has low toxicities when given orally, the compound can also be used to make cosmetics.

How is lithium-stearate used?
To provide water resistance, it is used in general-purpose greases. The versatility of lithium stearate allows it to be used at low and high temperatures. This makes it a versatile product that is found in many industries. The general-purpose grease lithium stearate also serves as a stabilizer within the cosmetics and plastics industries. This compound is also able to be used in the petroleum industry as a corrosion inhibitor.

Here are the applications of lithium-stearate.
It is also useful as a thickener in natural synthetic oils.
It allows the manufacturing of lightweight metal moulds.
This is a thicker, finer grease that’s ideal for applications at high temperatures.
It may increase the melting temperature and elasticity of microcrystalline wax.
It is easier to maintain consistency because lithium stearate melts at a lower temperature than traditional sodium or potassium soaps (22degC instead of 140degC).
It is resistant to corrosion and rust.
Lithium stearate is not water-repellent but it works well in many other environments.
This sealant is great.

What’s lithium grease?
The invention of lithium grease occurred in the late 1940s. It is made from lithium hydroxide reacting to fatty acid. Today’s lithium soaps, also called Thickeners, contain lithium hydroxide monohydrate and 12HSA (12-hydroxystearic Acid or Triglyceride).
Grease was used in lubricants since 1400 BC. Grease is a lubricant that reduces friction, waterproofs, and seals. Over 90% of bearings use grease for lubrication.
It could be either mineral oil or synthetic fluid. There are many oils and fats that can be used to make lithium soap. The preferred oils are 12HSA (12HSA) and HCO (hydrogenated casting oil). Perhaps the most versatile multi-purpose grease ever created is Lithium 12hydroxy Stearate Grease.
The water resistance of lithium grease is excellent (not as high as calcium), good mechanical or shear stability as well as excellent thermal stability. The continuous operating temperature is 130degC (266)degF, and the drop point ranges from 190 to 200degC. The most popular bearing grease across almost every industrial field is it.
